Klaus Tilmes, the Senior Advisor to the President of The World Bank, reviewed five trends that will determine the future success or failures of technology-related endeavors during a presentation at Digital Workforce Summit 2018. These trends are 1) equitable access to technology (which Klaus dubbed the primary trend right now); 2) the potential to open access to basic human needs such as housing, food, and education; 3) the effects of mass labor displacement at the hands of automation; 4) how the nature of work will change when automation takes over all the low-level repetitive tasks; and 5) the evolution of the social contract “to make sure that the positive power of technologies is being harnessed.”
